Students from The Hereford Academy made their traditional visit to Hereford County Hospital’s children’s ward this week.
Five students studying childcare at The Hereford Academy enjoyed talking and handing out gifts to the children in hospital during Christmas. They also spent time finding out about the care and treatment available in the hospital for young patients.
Seven year old patient, Sophie (pictured below), said: “I enjoyed the visit and it was a nice surprise to get presents, slippers, socks and a notepad”.
Sasha Edwards, student at The Hereford Academy, added: “The smile on the children’s faces warms everyone’s heart and it made me feel quite emotional. The whole experience was so rewarding and it was nice to meet all the lovely children and babies on the ward”.
Tammy Moss, NVQ tutor at The Hereford Academy, said: “This year the students have gone the extra mile in raising money for Christmas presents. They have baked cakes, organised a competition for ‘name the dog’ and worked tirelessly to purchase gifts for the children. As their tutor I am delighted and proud of their achievements. It has been a wonderful experience for them and they are a credit to The Academy”
Stacy Edwards, play specialist at Wye Valley NHS Trust, commented: “We’re very pleased to welcome The Hereford Academy students back to the children’s ward to help us celebrate Christmas.
“Their visit has helped to bring early festive cheer to the children currently being cared for on the ward, and on Christmas day we know the children in hospital will be delighted to open these donated gifts”.
