Wye Valley NHS Trust’s latest apprentice will be getting to grips with heating systems to ensure patients are comfortable and warm.
Under the watchful eye of expert engineers in the Trust’s Estates and Facilities team, 16-year-old Callum Jones will be working behind the scenes at the Trust’s community sites to help ensure all things mechanical, including heating systems, are working in tip top condition.
“This is a side to the Trust’s operation which most people don’t think about,” said Christian Homersley, the Trust’s head of estates, facilities and capital planning.
“There are many pieces of equipment and miles of pipework which play key roles in ensuring patients’ stay at the Trust is comfortable - these all need to be serviced, maintained and repaired, usually away from the gaze of the public.
“It’s essential that these pieces of equipment are all working properly without risk of breaking down so we have a robust preventative and maintenance regime in place.”
Callum will be serving his maintenance craftsman apprenticeship with the estates and facilities department at the Trust and will be based on the Trust’s Belmont site.
The Trust is working with the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Group Training Association to ensure a full programme of academic and hands-on training is arranged for Callum.
This will include gaining qualifications in mechanical and electrical maintenance.
“We’re delighted to have Callum on board and we’re looking forward to seeing him develop in his career at the Trust,” added Christian.
