Wye Valley NHS Trust has been named as one of the NHS Trusts helping to boost clinical research in the West Midlands, in a new league table of figures published this month.
The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network published its annual league table figures on October 21, revealing an increase in clinical research activity at several Trusts in the West Midlands.
The league table, now in its fifth year, details the number of clinical research studies undertaken by each individual trust, and the number of patients who volunteered to take part in clinical research.
During April 2014 to March 2015, 235 patients volunteered to take part in clinical research studies at Wye Valley NHS Trust, which is an increase of 23 per cent from last year. Clinical research enables doctors to gather evidence about new treatments, in order to improve patient care in the NHS.
There are a wide range of research studies taking place at the Trust, including patient drugs, cancer, stroke, heart disease and skin disease studies.
Emma Rowan, research manager for Wye Valley NHS Trust, said: “We’re very pleased to be named as one of the NHS Trusts boosting research figures in the West Midlands, in the recent league table published by National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network.
“This reflects the work underway at this Trust to raise awareness of the importance of clinical research studies and to encourage patients to get involved in the studies being undertaken locally.
“We are committed to supporting research to provide the very best care and develop new treatments to benefit out patients locally and across the country”.
If you are a patient and would like to find out about taking part in clinical research at Wye Valley NHS Trust, please ask the Trust clinician treating you when you next visit the hospital.
