Little Feet charity makes huge strides forward to help families with stillborn babies

Herefordshire charity Rocky Lee’s Little Feet recently visited the maternity department of Hereford County Hospital to help support families who suffer the loss of a baby.

The charity, based in Ross-on-Wye, was set up by Sian-Louise Coopey after her son Rocky-Lee was stillborn in 2013. It provides financial relief to parents who cannot afford a memorial headstone for their stillborn babies.

Its members recently paid a visit to the bereavement support team, based in the maternity department of Hereford County Hospital, to deliver a cuddle cot to the unit that will enable parents to spend longer with their baby, even taking them home should they wish.

They also handed over a camera which can be used to take photographs of babies.

“The aim of the charity is to raise awareness of the impact of pregnancy and baby loss with a view to bringing comfort to bereaved parents and their families after the loss of a baby,” said Sian.

“Since setting up we now supply memory bears to Hereford County Hospital with Aching Arms UK and this year our aim is to provide equipment, services and support to Hereford Hospital’s maternity department for their bereaved families,” she added.

To finance this support the charity is holding a series of events throughout the year. Further information about the events and the work of Rock-Lee can be found on the charity’s website – www.rockyleeslittlefeet.co.uk

Maxine Chong, Head of Midwifery at Wye Valley NHS Trust, said: “It can be a traumatic time when families experience a baby loss so we really value the support that Rocky Lee is offering.

“They understand what families are going through and know the best support they need. We’re grateful for their generosity. We know these items will be used well and appreciated by families.”
