Fred Bulmer Medical Day Case Unit

A variety of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are carried out in this department working closely with the specialist medical teams in the hospital.  These include blood transfusion, venesection, gastroenterology and rheumatology treatments and investigations linked to the Diabetes and Endocrinology team.

We also care for patients undergoing biopsies and lumbar punctures.

Patients attending the hospital for CT scans may also come to the department for intravenous hydration before and after their scan.

On your arrival

On your arrival to the department we will welcome you and offer you a chair or trolley depending on your treatment.  We will explain what will happen throughout your time with us and when we expect you to be able to go home.  We offer hot and cold drinks and a sandwich lunch.

We are always happy to answer.

Discharge lounge

This department caters for patients who are medically fit to go home or be transferred to a Community Hospital for rehabilitation.

You will arrive from a ward in the hospital to wait for either a lift home or you may be waiting for hospital transport. You may also expect to stay with us until your discharge letter and any medications you will need to take home are ready.

Monday to Friday, 8.30am until 9pm
Saturday and Sunday, 10.30am until 6pm

On your arrival

On your arrival to the department we will welcome you and offer you a hot or cold drink. We also offer sandwiches and light snacks.

The team will keep you informed throughout your stay with us regarding when we hope you will be ready to leave.

We can also advise relatives on where to park and can offer a parking pass to them if they will be staying with you until you are discharged.
