What our patients have to say
“My name is Caroline (pictured left below) and whilst undergoing chemotherapy at the Macmillan Renton Unit at Hereford County Hospital, for breast cancer, I was faced with the recommendation by my oncologist to undergo Radiotherapy.
It was not the news I wanted to hear and initially I was concerned about having the treatment for a number of reasons. I found out about the Macmillan Information and Support Service available at the unit and went along to meet the lady who runs it, Alison Stemp (right in picture).
Alison was extremely compassionate, very helpful, knowledgeable, and was able to talk me through the information available about my cancer treatment, and also signpost me to other services including the welfare benefits team.
One of the most useful and helpful leaflets is called ‘Radiotherapy for breast cancer’. This leaflet is very comprehensive and written in simple language which both myself and my partner were able to understand.
With Alison’s help I made the difficult decision to go for it and have radiotherapy treatment, and I can definitely say it was worth it.
It’s reassuring that you don’t have to face cancer alone and there is help and support available in Herefordshire. I would recommend this service to anyone affected by cancer in Herefordshire”.
