Podiatric Surgery

Podiatric surgery is foot and ankle surgery performed by podiatric surgeons. We specialise in day-case elective foot surgery. This is carried out under local anaesthetic with IV sedation and also local anaesthetic alone. You will be provided with extensive pre and post operative information allowing you to make an informed decision concerning your treatment.

Any Clinical Title which includes the term "Podiatric" denotes an independent clinician who is clinically qualified to diagnose and treat foot problems. Podiatric clinicians are not doctors (i.e. Registered Medical Practitioners), but have instead specialised throughout their training, purely in the treatment of one area of the body i.e. the foot and associated structures. Please see the additional detailed Definitions of Clinical Terms related to Podiatric Surgery.

Your treatment will be based on clinical need and you will be over 16 years. Surgery will not be the first option but only if non-surgical options have failed. Our outpatient clinics run daily alongside operating sessions. We will be able to see you at various locations including clinics in Shropshire, Gloucestershire and Gwent. We have a reputation for quality and reliability in day-case foot surgery. Your podiatric surgeon will retain overall clinical responsibility for your case working with a range of team members with expertise in health and social care. We attempt to fully inform you to be self aware and self reliant about your foot health and make fully informed choices about your treatment. You will be given written information on what to do post-operatively, how to manage pain control, exercises, what to do post suture removal and use of crutches.

Podiatry service

The Trust also provides a podiatry service, which is run by another department within the Trust.  It is our priority to provide care for patients who have a significant foot condition and a relevant medical history.  Many of these patients require ongoing treatment. Read out more about our podiatry service.

Friends and Family Test

The Friends and Family Test is a simple question that patients are asked about the care they have received.  The test is part of a  way of gathering patient feedback and driving improvement in NHS hospital services across the country. To find out more about the Friends and Family Test click here.
