Job Title: Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon Qualifications Mr Oakley studied Medicine at Glasgow University, graduating in 1991. His specialist registrar training was on the Northern Regional Orthopaedic Training Programme whilst living in Durham. In 2001, he passed his FRCS (Tr & Orth) and completed an Arthroplasty Fellowship at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham, and a Trauma fellowship in Denver, Colorado, USA. He returned, as a Consultant, to Hereford in 2003. Research interests include hip and knee replacement, and arthroscopic knee surgery. Blossom and Lavender RoomFunded through our Charity ‘The Born Sleeping Appeal’ at Hereford County Hospital we have a specially designed home from home suite called the Blossom Suite. Here you can be cared for after birth and spend time with your baby should you wish.
Set apart from the maternity department we have a private room called the Lavender Room that can be used for counselling or follow up appointments.

We are pleased to welcome you to the purpose built Day Case Surgical Unit at Hereford County Hospital, which opened in July 2024. The unit provides modern, state-of-the-art facilities, for our patients. The types of procedure offered in the new unit include a mix of day case surgeries, including gynaecology, urology, general surgical, orthopaedic and cataract procedures. We have three dedicated theatres, including a cataract theatre. Location The day case surgical unit is located in a new building on the Hereford County Hospital site. At Wye Valley NHS Trust we provide the following diagnostic tests: 1. Multi-night overnight oximetry – This involves wearing a watch-like monitor on a finger during sleep and is done at home. It is collected from the sleep clinic, worn overnight over a minimum of two consecutive nights and then returned for a recording of your night's sleep to be downloaded. 2. Limited Channel Sleep study – This is a slightly more in-depth test. It involves attending the sleep clinic for a ‘fitting’ session and then the equipment.
