In preparation for your caesarean section Before your elective caesarean section, a couple of pre-operative tests will need to be undertaken. These will include a swab looking for MRSA. The Neurophysiology department at The County Hospital provides a comprehensive neurophysiology diagnostic service to both inpatients and outpatients. Investigations include EEG (Electroencephalogram), Ambulatory EEG, Multiple Sleep Latency Testing and Evoked Responses. The service also provides physiologist and consultant led nerve conduction studies and consultant only electromyography (EMG). We accept GP referrals for most of our investigations.  All GP referrals can now be made via the NHS e-referral system. The department consists of a Service Manager, Consultant Neurophysiologist, 2 Clinical Physiologists, a Medical Secretary and an Administrative Assistant. The Neurology Department in The County Hospital consists of two Consultant Neurologists who visit The County Hospital from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. Dr Clinton Mitchell (Clinical Lead) – works remotely for 5 weeks off-site then on-site face to face every 6th week Dr Shanika Samarasekera (Visiting Consultant from QEHB) – Wednesdays (twice monthly). Dr Aamir Ijaz – (Locum) - works remotely Monday & Tuesday. On-site Wednesday and Thursday.  

Colorectal Surgery at The County Hospital is provided by a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, gastroenterologists, radiologists, pathologists, oncologists and specialist nurses.  Outpatient assessment, investigation, treatment and follow-up are provided for all colorectal surgical conditions, including colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel conditions (crohns’ disease and ulcerative colitis), functional bowel disorders (constipation and incontinence) and anorectal conditions (fistula-in-ano, fissures, haemorrhoids etc.).  Minimally invasive (laparoscopic) colorectal surgery is well developed, and enhanced recovery is provided by a dedicated team of doctors, physiotherapists, dieticians, specialist and ward nurses and other staff.  Colorectal surgical patients are admitted to Frome ward and Primrose Unit (Elective).
