If you have been referred by your GP they will have automatically made you an appointment via the “Choose and Book” system, though please note this is subject to change and the RMC may contact you to change this. If referred by another speciality the Consultant will triage your referral and decide whether you need to be seen routinely or urgently and an appointment will subsequently be made and sent to you via post.

Preparing for the birth/birth bag If your labour is being induced, there may be a break of 24-48 hours between the medication needed, in this time you may be offered to return home, although this isn’t mandatory. The induction of labour will be discussed with you in depth by a consultant to help you make a decision. When you first visited the hospital, if you weren’t given a leaflet called ‘The Alternative Birth Bag’ please contact the bereavement midwife. Alternatively some information is available on the BeyondBea website. 

You may be offered tests to help determine why your baby died or to check your wellbeing. These tests might include blood tests, checking the placenta and a post mortem. Sometimes these test can show no evident reason why your baby died however the bereavement midwife will guide you in discussing the results with your consultant when they are available.
