The County Hospital children's ward has been transformed into a colourful magical wonderland thanks to a local artist. Nurses on the children's ward, inspired by the work of local artist, Tom Roberts, fundraised for the design of a mural, to create a welcoming, familiar, and colourful environment for the children they care for. Welcome to our paediatric outpatient department and Children's Ward. The Paediatric department (Children's ward) provides inpatient and outpatient treatment of medical and surgical conditions, in children from birth up to the seventeenth birthday. The Children's ward deals with medical conditions and also provides facilities for many surgical specialties. The majority of children needing surgery can be treated in Hereford. However, surgery in young children (generally under two years of age) and specialist surgery is referred to a specialist Children’s hospital, usually Birmingham. Parents are welcome on the unit throughout the day/night. Siblings are welcome to join their parents on the unit between the hours of 08:00 and 20:00. Grandparents Monday to Friday 13:00 and 19:00. Grandparents and other Family Members – 13:00-19:00 Saturdays and Sundays ONLY No visitors are permitted without the parents being present on the unit. No children under the age of 16, other than siblings of the baby are permitted on the unit. No more than three people to a cotside (including a parent). We also have a neonatal community outreach team, who are trained neonatal nurses that can support you once your baby is discharged from the unit at home in the community We have three transitional care beds on the unit, which enables us to facilitate mums to stay alongside their baby. Unfortunately, we do not have the space that allows us to offer overnight accommodation to fathers/other carers, and so although parents are welcome to be on the unit 24 hours a day, if your baby is in one of our transitional care bed spaces we would respectfully ask fathers/other carers…
We are pleased to welcome you to the purpose built Day Case Surgical Unit at Hereford County Hospital, which opened in July 2024. The unit provides modern, state-of-the-art facilities, for our patients. The types of procedure offered in the new unit include a mix of day case surgeries, including gynaecology, urology, general surgical, orthopaedic and cataract procedures.
