The Neurophysiology department at The County Hospital provides a comprehensive neurophysiology diagnostic service to both inpatients and outpatients. Investigations include EEG (Electroencephalogram), Ambulatory EEG, Multiple Sleep Latency Testing and Evoked Responses. The service also provides physiologist and consultant led nerve conduction studies and consultant only electromyography (EMG). We accept GP referrals for most of our investigations.  All GP referrals can now be made via the NHS e-referral system. The Trust runs a Wound Review Clinic at the County Hospital site. The clinic provides a post-operative wound dressing service – the removal of stitches and sutures. It is based in the mobile unit at the front of the County Hospital site – patients are asked to check in for appointments at the main hospital reception desk. The clinic is open from 8.30am to 6pm Monday to Friday. Patients are referred to the service when they are discharged. When your baby is born they are still receiving oxygen and blood through the umbilical cord and placenta to allow a smooth transition into life outside of the womb. At any one time, a third of a baby’s blood volume is in their placenta. Therefore it is recommended that the cord is left unclamped until baby has received all of their blood. If the cord is left until it has stopped pulsating, baby can benefit from increased iron, oxygen and weight gain.Delayed cord clamping is now routinely practised.
