Osteoporosis is the term used to describe bones when they become ‘porous’, when the struts which make up the mesh-like structure within bone start to disappear. This leads to a reduction in bone strength and an increased risk of fracture after injuries such as a low impact fall. Injection site reactions include redness, itching, pain or swelling at the injection site. They mostly occur 1 to 2 days after an injection and go away within 3 to 5 days.
Change the injection site each time you inject (e.g. rotate from one leg to another leg).
Apply a cold compress to the injection site.
Antihistamine tablets can help.

Referral to general podiatry is through your GP or other Healthcare Professional. The service will triage referrals taking into account your medical history, foot condition and level of pain, prioritising those patients with greatest need. Nail surgery is available to patients from 12 years upwards. Children biomechanics available to children aged 8-17 years. We work to the 18 week referral to treatment time. Urgent referrals are given priority and seen in the next available clinic. Urgent referrals to the Podiatric Specialist in Diabetes are usually seen within 3 days. Blood tests help us to ensure that the medication is being used safely and not causing any harmful effects. When you first start a DMARD, such as Methotrexate or Sulfasalazine, you will need 2 weekly blood tests for 6 weeks, then monthly thereafter. Once your condition is stable on the medication, your blood tests should be every 2 to 3 months, unless required more often. At Wye Valley NHS Trust we provide the following diagnostic tests: 1. Multi-night overnight oximetry – This involves wearing a watch-like monitor on a finger during sleep and is done at home. It is collected from the sleep clinic, worn overnight over a minimum of two consecutive nights and then returned for a recording of your night's sleep to be downloaded. 2. Limited Channel Sleep study – This is a slightly more in-depth test. It involves attending the sleep clinic for a ‘fitting’ session and then the equipment.
