Macmillan Renton Unit (outpatient department and chemotherapy clinic)
Welcome to the Macmillan Renton Unit
The ‘Macmillan Renton Unit’ is a purpose built outpatient facility at Hereford County Hospital, in Hereford, which opened in 2011, and replaced the Charles Renton Unit.
The unit is a facility for the care of people who either have cancer or are having tests when cancer is suspected.
Patients and visitors to the new unit will experience first class spacious facilities including, a cancer information and support service, quiet rooms, refreshments area, and a tranquil landscaped garden with seating available to everyone.
Outpatient and chemotherapy clinics are held daily and other treatments such as blood transfusions are given in the unit.
In some cases patients who require more complex treatments may still be required to receive their treatment at Cheltenham General Hospital.
Opening times and parking
The unit is open Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 6pm.
The site has good access options by foot or road, including a dedicated drop off area, and good parking facilities including disabled spaces.
Macmillan Renton Unit team
A variety of cancer nurse specialists are available to provide patient care in the unit including specialist nurses for breast cancer, gynaecological cancer (including ovarian) and urological cancers (this includes prostate, kidney and bladder cancer), upper GI (oesphagus, stomach, pancreas) and specialist palliative care. There are also medical secretaries who provide a link with the visiting cancer consultants (oncologists) at Cheltenham.
Cancer care depends on high quality information and the unit also includes the cancer data management team who support the multidisciplinary teams, waiting times, registries and national clinical audit support programmes and other organisations.
Macmillan Allied Health Professionals Team
Macmillan Cancer Support has funded a new Allied Health Professionals (AHP) team to offer patients personalised care and support in Herefordshire. The team consists of Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Dietetics.
We are offering 1:1 appointments in Macmillan Renton Unit or via telephone, to patients with complex physical, functional and dietary needs. We can provide person centred support to prevent unnecessary loss of function and reduce side effects from cancer and cancer treatment.
For a referral please ask your healthcare provider or clinical nurse specialist team.

Health and wellbeing cancer events
We have held a number of cancer health and wellbeing days with local voluntary organisations and support services. These events offer people affected by cancer and their families the opportunity to access all the local information, support, and advice available, under one roof. This includes short talks from health professionals covering late effects of treatment, exercise, managing fatigue and the emotional impact for people affected by cancer and their family. Voluntary sector services also provide taster activity sessions, such as tai chi, to promote the benefits of returning to activity after treatment for cancer. To check when the next event is being held call our Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service on 01432 355444 ext 5459 or email hereford.cancerinfoandsupport@nhs.net
