Blood tests help us to ensure that the medication is being used safely and not causing any harmful effects. When you first start a DMARD, such as Methotrexate or Sulfasalazine, you will need 2 weekly blood tests for 6 weeks, then monthly thereafter. Once your condition is stable on the medication, your blood tests should be every 2 to 3 months, unless required more often. Injection site reactions include redness, itching, pain or swelling at the injection site. They mostly occur 1 to 2 days after an injection and go away within 3 to 5 days. Change the injection site each time you inject (e.g. rotate from one leg to another leg). Apply a cold compress to the injection site. Antihistamine tablets can help. If you continue to experience problems please contact us and we will be able to provide you further advice.
The Neurophysiology department at The County Hospital provides a comprehensive neurophysiology diagnostic service to both inpatients and outpatients. Investigations include EEG (Electroencephalogram), Ambulatory EEG, Multiple Sleep Latency Testing and Evoked Responses. The service also provides physiologist and consultant led nerve conduction studies and consultant only electromyography (EMG). We accept GP referrals for most of our investigations.  All GP referrals can now be made via the NHS e-referral system. The department consists of a Service Manager, Consultant Neurophysiologist, 2 Clinical Physiologists, a Medical Secretary and an Administrative Assistant.
