Community Diagnostic Centre

Wye Valley Community Diagnostic and Treatment Centre

A brand new facility in the heart of Hereford.

What is a Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC)?

Nationally Community Diagnostic Centres are springing up to provide a broad range of elective diagnostics away from acute facilities reducing pressure on hospitals and giving patients quicker and more convenient access to tests.

As part of a national programme, a number of CDCs are now open across England.

Some are based alongside acute hospitals, others are in shopping centres and some are new buildings on brown field sites.

The NHS England national CDC Programme vision is:

“Community diagnostic centres will deliver additional, digitally connected, diagnostic capacity in England, providing all patients with a co-ordinated set of diagnostic tests in the community, in as few visits as possible, enabling an accurate and fast diagnosis on a range of clinical pathways.”

What is happening in Herefordshire?

Wye Valley NHS Trust has built a brand new diagnostic and treatment centre on the northern side of the city centre, Holmer Road, Hereford (located behind the B&Q building).

The centre brings the latest, state-of-the-art MRI, CT, X-ray and Ultrasound equipment which allows us to diagnose cancer and other health conditions earlier and with greater accuracy.

It also provides cardiac and respiratory physiological testing as well as additional capacity for community phlebotomy.

When did the Wye Valley Community Diagnostic and Treatment Centre open?

The building was completed in Autumn 2025 and welcomed it’s first patients during September of that year.

Who will work at the Wye Valley CDC?

Staff from our existing diagnostic services will rotate between the County Hospital and the CDC site to take their important work to this community setting.  We are now recruiting more colleagues to join us in this exciting venture!
