The maternity ward is located on the second floor at Hereford County Hospital. If you are not wishing for an early discharge from Delivery Suite or if you and your baby need some additional monitoring or support with feeding then you will be transferred to Maternity Ward shortly after birth. When you arrive a midwife will be assigned to care for you and they will come and introduce themselves. Birth to 2 hours During this time you will be on Delivery Suite having your well-earned tea and toast and bath while your midwife finishes all of your labour and birth notes. Following the birth of your baby the midwife will conduct an initial top to toe examination of your baby to assess for wellbeing and to identify anything unusual. Dermatology The Dermatology department is based at the Gaol Street Health Centre, with some surgery being performed at the County Hospital. A wide range of services are offered to help diagnose and manage adults and children with skin, hair and nail problems. We manage a wide range of inflammatory skin conditions and skin cancers in an out-patient and in-patient setting. The Sleep Service offers specialist diagnostic tests and treatment to people with a wide range of sleep disorders. Over 2,000 patients with obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) are currently treated with positive airway pressure (CPAP) systems. We provide clinics at both Hinton Community Centre, in Hereford, and at Hereford County Hospital. The majority of our referrals are related to sleep disordered breathing, but even if you have symptoms of other sleep conditions, it is standard practice that you would have to be screened for sleep apnoea first before being considered for other tests or treatments. The Respiratory Department manages a significant amount of patients in the outpatient setting. This is where people are investigated, managed and monitored by attending clinics. Patients who visit from home (also called “outpatients”) are given medical treatment or advice in these clinics and often receive regular follow up. Introduction The Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) department provides diagnostic and treatment facilities for a wide range of ear, nose and throat diseases. Outline of the department The department consists of four consultants who provide services between Hereford and Worcester. They are supported by one Foundation Year doctor, one resident doctor, and two clinical nurse specialists. There is a fully staffed audiology department providing hearing services and hearing aids.
